The Current State of Political Engagement and Why He is Running for the U.S. Senate in Michigan
Archon Hill Harper is a lawyer, union member, actor, and father who owns a well-known coffee shop in Detroit. He is running for U.S. Senate on a platform of economic security, universal healthcare, climate justice, and ending the filibuster. Harper faces a crowded field in the Democratic primary and what is expected to be one of the most contentious general elections in our lifetime in 2024. The Michigan Democratic Party Black Caucus recently announced its endorsement of Hill Harper for U.S. Senate.
Raised in the Midwest by two doctors, Hill learned early on the importance of public service and kept this passion alive throughout his acting career, on the campus of Harvard Law School, and on the campaign trail for his law school classmate, President Barack Obama. He has served on President Obama’s Cancer Panel, written several best-selling books aimed at empowering marginalized young people, and establish a charitable foundation that helps young people achieve their dreams through scholarships, mentorships, and grants.
Archon Harper holds a BA from Brown University, and an MPA and JD from Harvard University. He has received eight honorary degrees, including honorary doctorates from both Westfield State College and Howard University.
