The Supreme Court, Judicial Decisions, and the Perilous Pathway for Black Economic Growth
Archon Bobby Scott is uniquely positioned to provide insights into the current political and legal climate. When he was elected to Congress in 1992, he became the first African American elected to Congress from Virginia since John Mercer Langston’s election more than 100 years earlier during the Reconstruction era.
Over the past 10 years, we have witnessed the rise in white supremist activity, attacks on voting rights, devastating decisions by the Supreme Court, and rise of white nationalism to such a degree that many scholars are describing this period as the beginning of the “second post-Reconstruction era.”
Archon Scott is a legal scholar, historian, and champion for the African American community. He is serving his 5th term as the lead Democrat on the Education and Workforce Committee and serves on the House Budget Committee where he is a leading voice for rational fiscal policy. He previously served on the House Judiciary Committee and remains a leading voice in Congress on the Constitution and reforming our nation’s criminal justice system.
About the Politics and Policy Series:
The Policy and Politics series is a benefit to our donors who supported the PAC and give them an opportunity to exchange thoughts with our nation’s leaders. The series invites elected officials to discuss their efforts on behalf of our community and serve as a platform for educating the Boule 1904 PAC on how to leverage their expertise, resources, and networks to help accomplish those goals.
